Founded in 2014 to fill a void in metro Detroit’s dining scene that lacks Filipino restaurants, Sarap Detroit is a pop-up restaurant concept that serves Filipino-inspired fare that highlights seasonal and local produce in southeast Michigan. Through their dinners, co-founders Dorothy Hernandez and Jake Williams aim to build community and bring people together at the table, whether they have never had Filipino food or grew up eating adobo. Sarap is dedicated to the vision of a healthy, sustainable food system and aims to be a collaborative, active member of the broader food movement in Detroit and beyond. By day (and sometimes night), Dorothy is a journalist and Jake is a chef.
